2025 feels like we’ve entered a new era in interior design. As an interior designer, I can confidently say: This is a year of fine nuances, sustainability, and luxurious simplicity. Spaces are no longer seen merely as functional areas but as extensions of ourselves. They’re retreats, expressions of individuality, and above all: they need to feel.
Today, I want to give you a personal insight into the key design trends of the year – and how I’m implementing them in my projects. It’s about more than just creating a beautiful space: it’s about crafting an atmosphere that lives, breathes, and tells your story. Look forward to understated elegance, the bold luxury of minimalism, and the wild magic of nature.
1. Japandi – Zen meets Scandinavian clarity.
Japandi – the perfect fusion of Japanese minimalism and Scandinavian coziness. It combines the understated elegance of Japanese design with the warm functionality of Scandinavian aesthetics, creating more than just beautiful spaces – it’s a way of life. In 2025, Japandi is not just a trend; it’s a mindful approach to putting the essentials at the forefront and creating spaces that radiate calm and harmony.
My approach to the Japandi style:
- Color palette: Soft grays, earthy tones, and a touch of deep green or blue – the colors should feel like they come from nature, soothing the space.
- Furniture: I select pieces that are clean yet never cold. Natural wood, soft linen fabrics, and organic shapes create a warm atmosphere. Every item tells a story.
- Materials: Wood, linen, and bamboo – and when needed, a hint of luxurious leather or glass to lighten things up.
Recommended brands:
- Muuto is one of the leading brands in Scandinavian design and perfect for the Japandi style. Their furniture and accessories are known for their clean lines and sustainable materials. Muuto focuses on simple yet impactful designs that perfectly complement the Zen aesthetic by creating a calming atmosphere in a space.
Example piece: The Cover Chair, made of wood with a soft, minimalist design, embodies calm and simplicity – typical of Japandi. Similarly, the Join Sofa, with its soft, natural materials and organic forms, perfectly mirrors the calming feeling of Japandi. - HAY is a Scandinavian brand known for its modern and minimalist aesthetic. Their furniture pieces are functional and simple, yet high-quality and versatile, making them ideal for Japandi. HAY combines pure forms, natural materials, and precise craftsmanship to create spaces that radiate both tranquility and style.
Example piece: The About A Chair by HAY, with its clean, reduced form and natural materials, fits perfectly within the Japandi style. The Palissade collection, known for its simple design and robust materials, can be a minimalist addition to an outdoor space.
2. Opulent Minimalism – Luxury that’s never intrusive.
There’s this trend that might seem simple at first glance but, upon closer inspection, radiates pure exclusivity. I call it “Opulent Minimalism.” Less is more, but this “less” is never cheap or boring. On the contrary: it’s elegant, high-quality, and makes an impression in the most subtle way.
My interpretation of the Opulent Minimalism style:
- Color palette: Black, white, and gray, paired with gold or bronze accents that make the space feel like a quiet symphony.
- Furniture: Here, the furniture should be not just functional but also artistic. It’s the quiet details that make the difference – like handcrafted wood surfaces or stunning leather textures.
- Materials: Marble, the finest wood, luxurious leather, and velvet – all at the highest level, but without the need to overpower the space.
Recommended brands:
- Fendi Casa – luxury in the details. It combines exclusive luxury with clear, minimal designs. They blend materials like marble, leather, and fine woods to create furniture that exudes subtle elegance and high functionality. Fendi Casa is the perfect choice for Opulent Minimalism, as they use luxurious materials without exaggeration.
Example piece: The Trapezio table – with clean lines and the finest marble, it brings a luxurious yet understated elegance to the room. - Armani Casa – luxury in its purest form. Armani Casa offers furniture with clear, minimalist designs and high-end materials, creating the perfect blend of luxury and functionality. With the finest leather, marble, and woven fabrics, their pieces radiate calm elegance and allow the space to shine in its full glory.
Example piece: The Gio sofa from the Armani/Casa 2025 collection – a masterpiece of Italian craftsmanship, conveying a subtle, luxurious atmosphere through its use of fine velvet and black leather, defining the space gently without overwhelming it.
3. Wild Luxury – Where sustainability meets luxury.
Wild Luxury – is more than just a trend – it’s an attitude. It’s about combining luxury with sustainability without compromising on exclusivity. In 2025, it’s not just about how a space looks, but how it feels. And it feels incredible to live in harmony with nature while still embracing style.
My interpretation of the Wild Luxury style:
- Color palette: Earth tones, deep greens, and warm golden accents – for me, the perfect blend to bring nature indoors without it feeling too “rustic.”
- Furniture: Furniture should feel organic, but with a certain level of luxury – high-quality leather, handcrafted wood surfaces, and elegant design.
- Materials: Wood, marble, stone, and premium leather – materials that reflect both the beauty of nature and the luxury of life.
Recommended brands:
- B&B Italia – A brand that successfully merges luxury with a true sense of nature. B&B Italia has established itself as a leader in combining sustainable materials with luxurious design. Their pieces are not only stylish and exclusive but also incorporate innovative, eco-friendly materials. The brand works closely with designers who show a strong sensitivity to sustainable production and natural aesthetics, without compromising on quality and luxury.

Their furniture collections, such as Fendi Casa and Trussardi Casa, focus on natural materials like fine hardwood, premium leather, and marble, creating a luxurious yet environmentally-conscious design. Example: Fendi Casa’s Riviera collection, where luxurious design is enhanced by the use of natural materials like wood and leather in modern forms.
4. Nordic Noir – Dark, dramatic, and unmistakable.
Nordic Noir – a design characterized by dramatic colors, a mystical atmosphere, and minimalist luxury, where the choice of the right furniture brands plays a crucial role. It’s not just about Scandinavian style but also about integrating noble, dark materials and dramatic accents that add depth and character to a space.
My interpretation of the Nordic Noir style:
- Color palette: A mix of charcoal, black, and deep blues, with gold and brass accents to break the darkness and bring life to the room.
- Furniture: Pieces made from noble dark wood or matte leather – structured yet with a noticeable presence. I love furniture that doesn’t get lost in a dark room but instead commands attention.
- Materials: Dark wood, marble, brass, and leather – each material speaks for itself, but never too loudly.
Recommended brands:

Example piece: The PK22 chair by Poul Kjaerholm in black leather and steel, whose minimalist design and clean lines create a dramatic effect in the room. - Tom Dixon is known for his dramatic and luxurious designs, which are a must-have in a Nordic Noir space. The combination of matte black, polished brass, and metal creates a distinct look that emphasizes the depth and mystique of this style. His pieces are modern yet full of character and presence.
Example piece: A black metal pendant light that bathes the room in dramatic lighting or a black leather sofa with clean lines and an elegant minimalist design.
